New Google Maps Summer Travel Features

July 12, 2016
Navigating your Summer 2016 getaways with Google Maps just got better with the latest updates! Google Maps is now introducing two new features to help you map out your travels, and also keep track of the memories you create.

If you decide to go on a road trip, you can now get multi-stop directions in Google Maps on Android (soon on iOS).  Prior to this update, when you looked things up such as gas stations or restaurants along your route, you couldn’t navigate to one of those stops, followed by directions to the next. Google will now show your entire route complete with every stop along the way.

To complete your multi-stop route:
  • Open the app
  • Enter destination
  • Tap on the corner menu
  • Click “Add stop” and drag it to the position you want
  • Add your stops, then tap “Done”
Now when you enter navigation mode, you’ll have the same seamless driving experience you’re used to.

Additionally, Google is adding another feature to the Timeline tool. Google Maps users with Location History enabled can open Your Timeline, select a date from their recent vacation or everyday life and add notes to help remember what they did that day- or save important notes for later. This allows Google to place all of your visits on a scrollable timeline, and can also transform Your Timeline into a useful journal with the notes feature.  For instance, you can now jot down a memory, or notate your favorite restaurants or shops along your traveled routes.

These two new features added are not just about getting you where you need to go, but helping preserve the memories you make along the way. Be sure to check these new features out on your next adventure!
